Mariachi Margaritas

Biography

Mariachi Margaritas has been captivating audiences around Texas and the U.S. performing for festivals, private parties, restaurants, concerts and more since their establishment in 2009. The all-female mariachi from the lower Rio Grande Valley is under the direction of Karina J. Vela and assistant director Avigai Gonzalez. Mariachi Margaritas is recognized for their powerful vocal harmonies, concise armonia section, and violin and trumpet sections that can fill any room with robust melodies. The group consists of 11 talented members with over 50 years of combined musical experience. The Margarita women have accompanied world-renowned Tejano legends like Little Joe, Ramon Ayala, and Michael Salgado and have shared the stage with prestigious mariachis such as Mariachi Vargas, Mariachi Nuevo Tecalitlan, and even toured Guadalajara, Mexico with Mariachi Sol de Mexico de Jose Hernandez. In 2017, these talented young ladies were honored to accompany Mr. Amigo Mexican celebrity Pedro Fernandez followed by a Día de los Muertos event presented by Dr. Esperanza Zendejas accompanying Pablo Montero, a Mexican telenovela actor.
In 2018, Mariachi Margaritas was invited to be the featured mariachi group at the Mariachi Extravaganza de Santa Fe, Nuevo Mexico for their annual Fiestas cultural celebration which took place in the world-renowned Santa Fe Opera House to a sold-out crowd. In 2019, Mariachi Margaritas was invited to accompany Angela Aguilar for her first solo concert tour “Primero Soy Mexicana”, which included traveling to different cities throughout Texas such as Laredo, McAllen, San Antonio, Dallas, Houston and El Paso. That same year, Margaritas had the pleasure of accompanying Ana Barbara on her “Mi Revancha” tour at the McAllen Performing Arts Center and even released their first three singles, Mi Razon de Ser, Quisiera Saber, and Popurri Tema. Mariachi Margaritas had the honor to accompany Grammy nominee Angela Aguilar on her “Como La Flor” in 2021 and her "Piensa En" mi 2023 tours. In addition to becoming Angela Aguilar’s official mariachi group, Mariachi Margaritas had the honor of accompanying legendary mariachi singer Pepe Aguilar and his children Angela and Leonardo Aguilar for the opening of the Canelo vs. Saunders boxing match at the AT&T stadium, performing in front of a crowd of over 73,100 people. 
Mariachi Margaritas are not only professional musicians, but many are also licensed music educators. These outstanding young women have been instructors and lecturers for various educational music workshops such as the Nuestra Cultura Mariachi Festival, the UT Austin mariachi camp, and the Conn Selmer Institute in Chicago. Music education is and will always be the core motivation for Mariachi Margaritas as they continue to grow as professional music educators and performers. Mariachi Margaritas continues to strive for success and opportunities, reaching beyond their musical talents to embrace their culture and bring the diversity and traditions of mariachi music to audiences everywhere.
